VanSach Rottweilers

About Us

Thank you for visiting www.VanSach.com and giving us this opportunity to introduce ourselves.

We are Tom and Shannon VanSach and we reside in Southeastern Michigan with our three "babies", Juliet, Walker and Aphy. Having been active in the Rottweiler breed since 1989, we took a short one-year leave when we lost our first baby, Motley, to cancer. Losing her was quite a traumatic experience that took awhile to get over. Needless to say, we have been back for some time now and are quite involved in the Rottweiler community to include the online contingent. We are active members of many different internet based Rottweiler clubs, groups and lists; most notably the Rottie-L list. We are even co-founders of the Yahoo! Groups:    All Rottweiler Heath Concerns, Cancer in Rottweilers and Rottweiler Health. Aside from this website, Tom has also designed and hosts Wright's Rottweilers and Wernerhafen Rottweilers among others. Additionally, he is an editor of the dmoz Open Directory Project.

In the real world, we are active members of the American Rottweiler Club and the Medallion Rottweiler Club, participating in American Kennel Club, Canadian Kennel Club, United Kennel Club and United States Rottweiler Club events. We have bred three litters in thirteen years. As members of the American Rottweiler Club and the Medallion Rottweiler Club, we strongly adhere to our code of ethics, as we had also required of our breeders. Over the past several years, we have been able to select some very nice puppies, which have become the best housedogs and companions we could have hoped for, not to mention quite successful show dogs and the future of VanSach Rottweilers. We were blessed with the opportunity to obtain Pick of the Litter from both Linda M. Wright of Wright's Rottweilers and Shirley Werner of Wernerhafen Rottweilers, who bred Juliet and Walker respectively. Our newest addition, Aphy, was the Pick of our “A” litter and shows great promise.

AKC/UKC CH Wright's Kind Juliet VanSach, or "Juliet" as she is called, was an easy selection. Her attitude and expression, very clear even early on, drew us to her. Luckily, she also turned out to be conformationally correct :-) She is an AKC Champion, collecting 10 Best of Opposite Sex wins and an Award of Merit, UKC Show Champion, collecting 2 Best of Breed wins, and pointed in the CKC ring, collecting 5 Best of Opposite Sex and two Best of Breed wins thus far. Juliet is expecting her second litter in July 2004, and will return to the ring following the puppies to complete her CKC Champion title, obedience titles and potentially, agility titles.

AKC/UKC CH SL's Moonwalker, or "Walker" as he is called, came to us at 10 months. Walker was originally purchased by a man in the Philippines who chose to board Walker with his breeders to ensure correct conformation during early growth. Following such and awaiting transportation arrangements to the Philippines (enduring summer embargoes), September 11, 2001, occurred. At this point, Walker's then owner decided to sell Walker rather than wait out any further transportation arrangement delays. We welcomed Walker into our home and lives with open arms. He immediately became our Juliet's best friend, who was only 3 months his senior. Walker was shown at and won Best Male Puppy and received a VP-1 rating at the USRC Chicago Working Rottweiler show in October 2001. That same month, he took home third place in the 9-12 month puppy dog class at the 2001 Medallion Rottweiler Club Specialty. Just one month later, Walker was shown at the American Rottweiler Club 2001 Region II Specialty, winning Best of Opposite Sex in Sweepstakes. Since those first months with us, he has completed his AKC Championship, UKC Show Championship and is very close to receiving his CKC Champion title. We are currently training Walker for the obedience ring and hope to complete his CKC Champion title this year!

UKC CH VanSach’s Aphrodite, or “Aphy”, as she is called is our newest addition. She was the Pick of the Litter from our very successful “A” Litter. Aphy has had a very limited show career thus far due to some very big personal events in our lives over this past year, some good and some bad. On the bad side, Grandma VanSach was diagnosed with quite advanced cancer, spending a majority of her time in and out of the hospital and severely limiting her ability to be the active and important member of VanSach Rottweilers she has been over the years. On the good side, we have become first time parents giving birth to our little girl Mykaela Marie VanSach on April 15, 2004. That said, Aphy has completed her UKC Championship with style! She took a group 2 & 4 at 11 months, surpassing her Mother Juliet’s and Uncle Walker’s achievements. We expect great things from this little girl in the future. She has great conformational, working and genetic potential!

Additionally, we co-own our V-Rated CH VanSach’s Atlantis Meteora with, and who resides with, Linda M. Wright of Wright’s Rottweilers. Her call name is “Baby” due to here uncanny resemblance both physically and in personality to our Juliet, her mother. She has had quite a successful career in the AKC conformation ring thus far. Baby has had some impressive wins to include a four point major at just eight months of age and collecting 10 points total all from the puppy classes. She also placed third in her class at the 2003 MRC Futurity and first in her class at the 2004 ARC Nationals Specialty Sweepstakes. We all have high hopes that she will be an outstanding show and obedience winner.

We do owe a debt of gratitude to a number of people for our success. First, our sincerest thanks to Linda M. Wright of Wright's Rottweilers and Shirley Werner of Wernerhafen Rottweilers for entrusting us with their babies. Linda has also been our primary handler and mentor...we don't know where we would be without her! Secondly, our deepest appreciation to Joanne Davis of VonStallog Rottweilers for all the time she has spent helping us (and the dogs) in and out of the ring, as well as for her friendship and support in general. To Kimm McDowell of Der Hagen Rottweilers, we hold a debt of gratitude for her assistance with Juliet, her friendship and guidance. Finally, to Mark and Amy Hansen of RiverRun Rottweilers, our thanks could never repay their willingness to entrust us with the present and future Petra x Juliet babies and the friendship we have gained through the process. Each one of these individuals holds a special place in our hearts!
