Shir-Lon Acres

I have loved dogs since childhood, probably a love reinforced by a book of dog stories which I thought was the greatest gift I had ever received. I grew up on a farm and my siblings and I each had our own dog. Dad loved hunting, so we each had our own Beagle. Soon enough, though, I left home and went to school to become a Registered Nurse. I married my childhood sweetheart and we soon purchased a little farm of 66 acres. Our first animal, you might guess, was a dog, but soon after we started raising Arabian horses. We decided to name our farm Shir-Lon Acres, taken from our names Shirley and Lonnie, my husband. A working farm with cows and horses needs a good working dog, so I chose an Australian Shepherd and still have several today. I breed them occasionally and have shown several to their Championship. Since acquiring this breed, I have owned several other breeds, and chose the Doberman and German Shepherd as my companion dogs.

I purchased my first rottweiler in 1981 through a breeder friend. The kennel name was Bomark’s and I acquired a female puppy out of Ch El Toro Von Stolzenfels and Concord’s Adreana of CLF, a Ch Rodsden’s Ander vh Brabantpark daughter. My new puppy was named Bomark’s Mia of Shir-Lon. When old enough, she was bred to Woodland’s Simon von Kais, a Ch Northwind’s Kaiser of Mallan son. With this breeding, I kept my first show prospect whom I named Ch Shir-Lon’s Agatha Von Werner. In addition to completing her conformation title, Agatha produced several litters and became a Producer of Merit. She was a great producer and was accepted to the Medallion Rottweiler Club Honor Roll. Agatha’s daughter, my next show prospect, Ch SL’s Mariska Von Wernerhafen followed in her mother’s footsteps and was also accepted to the MRC Honor Roll. My proudest moment, however, came when Mariska’s daughter, Ch SL’s Miss Be Cool, CD, TDI was rated in the Top Ten and took Best of Opposite Sex at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club show. My sincere appreciation to her owner and handler, Dory Hofmann of Saalbach Rottweilers.

I joined the MRC, ARC, CRC and GCRC to keep up with the news and information of the breed. I am a code of ethics breeder and strive to breed for the true temperament of the breed as well as correctness in structure, good health and longevity. All of these qualities combined produce excellent show, working and companion dogs for loving family homes. For a more recent example of one of my breedings, I invite you to visit VanSach Rottweilers and see SL’s Moonwalker, who is out of my SL’s Lady Stetson and Ch. Wright’s Windwalker. At the young age of 18 months, Walker has accumulated AKC points, CKC points and has completed his conformation title in the UKC ring.

Puppies that are produced here are born and socialized in my home. They are sold with a contract and health guarantee. Any inquiries for the purchase of puppies meet with strict scrutiny and many questions so that I may decide if the breed and individual puppy are right for the new owner and their lifestyle.

I welcome guests to visit Shir-Lon Acres, from which is derived the prefix “SL’s” for naming my dogs, home of Wernerhafen Rottweilers. Please come meet my wonderful rottweilers and myself. I ask only that you contact me at 812-623-2175 (preferably later in the evenings) to schedule an appointment for your visit. I hope you enjoy my website and I look forward to meeting other Rottweiler fanciers, as I am convinced that there is no other breed as wonderful!
